3 delicious summer cocktails you can make on the grill
Food The ListIf you love the taste of something fresh off the grill during the summer, don't just limit said grill to burgers and buns – start grilling your cocktails! Grilling your drinks adds a different flavor profile and kick; not to mention doing it for guests makes you look really cool at your pool party. Let Teresa Strasser and Mixologist Andrew De Neef show you how to cook up your drinks on the bar-b to intoxicating perfection.
1. Grilled Gazpacho Bloody Mary
Class up your Bloody Mary by adding a culinary twist!
You'll Need:
Red bell pepper
Onion
Poblano pepper
Zucchini
Plum tomatoes
Lemon
Vodka
Worcestershire sauce
Put your veggies on the grill, getting a nice amount of char on them. Then put your ingredients into a blender and blend until it turns into a soup.
Chill your soup overnight (hence the Gazpacho in the title) – then the next day add ice cubes, 1.5 ozs. of vodka, and a couple teaspoons of Worcestershire sauce. Top the drink with a dash of hot sauce and enjoy the heightened flavors of your Bloody culi-Mary – see what we did there?
2. Grilled Peach Bourbon Smash
Get your Southern charm on with this grilled version of a summer classic, especially since grilling your fruits helps carmelize sugars, bringing out tasty flavors, not to mention enhancing your beverage.
You'll Need:
Peaches
Lemons
Bourbon
Simple syrup
Mint
Ginger ale
Grill up a peach and your lemons then mash up your grilled peach in a cocktail shaker. This releases the flavors of the peach, helping it get better acquainted with the bourbon later.
Add bourbon, ice, more grilled/sliced peaches, and a bit of simple syrup to your shaker. Then squeeze in a lemon and add mint. Shake up the mix, strain, and then top the glass off with the sparkle of some ginger ale. Yes please!
3. Grilled Pineapple Mai Tai
You know how much you love grilled pineapple with your dinner – so why not enjoy it in your favorite drink!
You'll Need:
Pineapple
Lime
Gold Rum
Silver Rum
Triple Sec
Almond syrup
Chip your pineapple into rows, then cubes; then grill them along with a lime. Then squeeze the juice from both the pineapple and the lime into a shaker.
Add your rums, and your triple sec; then add a half once of almond syrup. Shake then pour over ice and garnish with your lime and pineapple.
