Summer's coming, but you aren't the only one the heat can throw for a loop. It can put your car in a tizzy too! Jared Cotter is talking with master mechanic and owner of Mazvo Auto Care Center, Shahe Koulloukian. He has some tips to get your car ready for the hot road ahead.
1. Check for Critters Under The Hood
You don't know what's going on under the hood because as the car sits, believe it or not, critters hibernate and look for a warm place to nest. The leaves that are underneath the vehicle are where they'll start making a small nest. Then the furry varmints will start chewing on the wiring because they find the plastic sweet. Just grab a blower and just blow it out or sweep it off yourself.
2. Secret Tire Code
When it comes to tires, it's not just about treads. Outdated tires can have dry rot, which can lead to dangerous blowouts. How do you find out how old your tires actually are. There's a secret code on the tire. The four digits are arranged by week and year. The first two are the week of the year and the second two are the year.
3. Wiper Blades
The wiper blade itself starts dry rotting so the very first time it starts raining you go to use it you’ll see streaking. If you replace the wiper and you don't use it again then eight months later you end up finding it's still streaking. Here's a trick! Grab some petroleum jelly and rub it on the blade, wipe it off with alcohol and then hit the blade with petroleum jelly again. The next time you use it you're going to get a clean wipe.
