3 tasty, easy to make (and cheap!) meals made with Spam

Sometimes people look down on Spam like it's some untouchable meat that crawled out of a butcher's shop to wreak havoc on unsuspecting meat eaters. But Spam isn't scary; it's not even mystery meat!

It's made with pork, ham, potato starch, and a few other delicious ingredients that you know, use, and love. Not to mention that 7 million cans of it are eaten in Hawaii every year, and if the island of Hawaii is wrong, we don't want to be right.

So forget everything you've heard about Spam and get ready to have your taste buds do the talking with these 3 easy, and delicious, Spam meals.

1. The Spamarito

Ingredients:

2-4 strips of Spam, fried

3 eggs, scrambled

1 tortilla, large

1/4 cup cheese

Green, red peppers

Hot sauce (optional)

Add scrambled eggs, fried spam, cheese and peppers to the center of the tortilla. Roll like a burrito, while tucking in the ends. Place the burrito in a heated skillet to crisp the outside. Add hot sauce and enjoy!

2. Spam & Cheese Melt

Ingredients:

1 can of Spam, chopped

1/2 cup Mayo

Sliced cheese

Salt/Pepper to taste

Bread, toasted

In a bowl, mix chopped spam, celery, and mayo. Add the mix to one slice of bread, open face style. Then melt a slice of cheese on top before adding the second slice of bread. Lunch made easy!

3. Spam Wellington

Ingredients:

2 sheets of puff pastry

1 can of Spam, uncut

1 cup minced mushrooms

1 cup chopped onions

1 egg wash

Butter

Thyme

Salt/Pepper to taste

Pre-heat your oven to 425 degrees. Sautee mushrooms and onions with butter until onions are soft and browning, then set aside.

Once at room temperature, spread the mixture around the pastry sheet. Add the spam block to the center of the sheet. Wrap everything together, securing the edges with the egg wash.

Wrap the second puff pastry sheet around the first to prevent leakage, cover with egg wash, sprinkle with thyme. Cook for about 45 minutes or until golden brown.
