Chris & Heidi Powell’s 4 easy tips to get you in summer shape

The Fitness Industry Association says 22 percent of people who joined a gym back in January have already quit! Don't give up because Lindsey Granger met up with celebrity trainers Chris and Heidi Powell and they are sharing four easy health and fitness tips to get you in summer shape.

1.  Carb Cycling

Simply put, two days of low carbs, one day of high carbs and that’s it. That's what boosts our metabolism, boosts our muscle and really creates that shape to our body, which is so necessary. On your low carb days, no pasta and no rice, but you can enjoy cheese, bacon and peanut butter. Always add a protein to each meal like chicken or fish. On high carb days, that's when it gets fun! You can have bagels, bread cereal and potatoes.

2.  Morning Cardio

The next summer fitness tip is to start your morning with cardio. People think you need to spend an hour a day on the treadmill, but all you need is 10 minutes. Try running in place or jumping jacks. Do 15 seconds high intensity and then 15 seconds low intensity repeated for that 10 minute period of time. You're actually going to get better results in that 10 minute period of time than you would in a full hour of steady low intensity cardio. Then, add 5 more minutes every two weeks.

3.  Hydration is Key

Chris and Heidi’s rule of thumb is to drink half your body weight in ounces of water each day. Try adding flavors if you hate drinking water. Heidi recommends taking 10 gulps every time the jug hits your lips.
