You might have noticed that a lot of things from the past are becoming awfully popular again: neon makeup, high-waisted pants, polaroid cameras...We all know fashion goes in circles, but one decade that always seems to stay around is the bright and colorful '80s. Lindsey Granger wanted to know why so she went to the source of all things cool: The legendary Downtown Julie Brown.
1. Throwback Gadgets
Julie Brown says we love the gadgets from the past like polaroid cameras and record players because they connect to our identities. Even though we have more modern ways of taking pics and playing our favorite tunes, some of us are drawn to those items, whether its because they wish they were around when those gadgets were or because they appreciate tech of the past.
2. Throwback Flicks
When it came to movies in the '80s, it was all about fun. The special effects were still new and cool; the stories were ones we could relate to. Even if you weren't necessarily busting ghosts, you saw yourself in one of members of the Ghostbusters crew. You might not have looked as hot as John Bender, but maybe you understood his angsty past. Those emotions stay with you, and as new kids rewatch these throwback films, they connect to the characters too.
3. Throwback Fashion
The biggest thing about fashion in the '80s is that there were no rules. You could wear your ponytail in a funny way and it would be seen as avant-garde! You could roll up one pant leg and wear clothes with rips and holes in them. It was the decade of fashion discovery and putting your personality on display, not just your clothes.
