“We try to get the grass to go to sleep nice enough that when it wakes up it’s going to be beautiful and green for opening day,” said Head Grounds Keeper Nicole Sherry. Her team recently replaced the sod along the first and third base lines, the pitcher’s mound and in front of home plate.
“We’re out here every single day. Even with the team is away. We’re trying to maintain our grass to a healthy playable state,” said Sherry.
So when the birds return to the field next season, don’t just cheer on the orange and black, give a little shout out to the grounds crew as well.
