Around Cincinnati: Rock Star Dorms, safe housing for college students and Team spirit candles

The stories people are talking about around Cincinnati on August 14, 2013.
1. PENTHOUSE IN THE SKY: Thursday is the grand re-opening of the University of Cincinnati's Morgens Hall, but The List has your first look.
"UC Glass House is probably the best way to say that. That's our hashtag and when you're inside, you're looking out through the nine foot glass walls at the beautiful views around the building 360 degrees," said Todd Duncan of Housing and Food Services division.
The lucky students who will move into the plush apartment style residence halls are likely shouting for joy. It's like they hit the dorm room lottery.
"We've had a couple move in early and grins ear-to-ear. Jaws hurting by the end of the day because they can't stop smiling but it's been exciting," said University of Cincinnati's Carl Dieso.
Other perks include a stove, sink, cabinets and microwave. The students will also be the first to use the newly designed space saver desk.
"When you extend now it's a desk and a dresser," explained Duncan.
It cost about $8,000 a year per student to rent a room. The 450 rooms sold out in 72 hours.
2. A SAFE HOUSING LIST FOR COLLEGE STUDENTS: If your college aged child is looking to rent off campus, they might want to click on the new Cincinnati safe student housing website. It lists more than 245 apartments that have been inspected for fire safety code standards.
The website was launched in memory of college students who died in off-campus fires.
3. TEAM SPIRIT IN A CANDLE: The next time you go to alumni day at your alma mater, pick up a university candle.
Yankee candle is selling 25 collegiate candles. We found The Ohio State University and University of Kentucky candles at the Rookwood Commons Yankee Candle store.
