Celebrate New Year's Eve with or without your children in tow

CINCINNATI - New Year's Eve celebrations aren't just for parents anymore.

Family Friendly Cincinnati magazine writes there are fun places to celebrate the holiday with or without your children in tow.

"We'll start with some free things to do. Happen Inc. over in Northside is doing a celebration from 6 to 7:30 p.m. that will include lots of arts and crafts. They'll ring in the New Year's early. You've also got several of the Hamilton County library branches that are hosting early in the afternoon," said Shannan Boyer of FamilyFriendlyCincinnati.com.

Children can also get into the spirit of the midnight ball drop at some of the events.

Parents don't even have to rush back to pick up the kids because it's an overnight affair.

"The Mayerson JCC in Amberly Village is having an overnight event where kids can come and spend the night. There's a balloon drip at midnight. They can have fun at the Waterpark. Also, the YMCA Camp Ernst out in Burlington is doing their Winter Wonderland weekend. Your kids can go to stay in the heated lodge," Boyer said.

If you're looking for some holiday family fun before New Year's Eve, then check out the lobby of Great Wolf Lodge. The gingerbread house is a feast for your eyes and a candy bouquet for your nose.

"It smells as good as it looks," said Christian Massey, executive chef at Great Wolf Lodge.

The lodge's culinary crew began baking the first parts of the house September.

"We have over 980 pounds of icing on the house. There's about 1200 pounds of gingerbread and cookie dough on the house as well. We have over 5,000 M&M's on there and about 300 pounds of fondant on the house," Massey explained.

Although you can't nibble on the candy cottage, you can dine inside the gingerbread house for the cost of your meal plus a $20 donation to Big Brothers Big Sisters.

"We have a table set up. We can seat up to ten people per meal period. You can either have breakfast lunch or dinner and in between, " Massey said.

The Great Wolf Lodge gingerbread house is open to the public.
