Cincinnati drag queen chosen to compete on RuPaul's Drag Race

CINCINNATI - One of Cincinnati's drag queens is making her national television debut on "RuPaul's Drag Race."

Penny Tration is one of the contestants on this season of "Rupaul's Drag Race" thanks to her 9,000 Facebook fans.
"The producer's didn't pick me. The fans decided that they wanted me on," said Penny.
Penny, who's real name is Anthony Cody, was one of 14 contestants chosen for the fifth season of the show. The reality show searches for America's next drag superstar.
Penny says you've got to think big to walk in her shoes.
"Drag has to be bigger. It has to be more. It has to be exaggerated or else it doesn't read on stage," Penny said.
"A couple of tips. Boys walk with their shoulders. Girls walk like with their hips. So that's the most important thing."
Penny also has a tip for all us women struggling to put on those false eyelashes.
"Do not wear the tarantulas during the day. Ya'll look ridiculous in the Kroger going va voom. Don't wear those," Penny said as she laughed at the thought.
Penny says we've got to be more subtle.
"I think the most important thing for women to learn how to do is to put on individual lashes. Lashes that are on a string that I'm wearing. They don't work during the day," she said.
Penny says she sews a lot of her own costumes and even makes her own wigs. She says after 20 years in the business, she can put on full make-up and costume in two hours.
You can see her final beauty shot during the show's premiere Monday, January 28 at 9 p.m. on the LOGO network. If staying home is a drag, then head to Penny's premiere party at Below Zero Lounge on Walnut Street downtown.
Doors open at 6 p.m.
