PHOENIX - Every Friday at 10 a.m., a non-descript parking lot in downtown Phoenix turns into an energized food scene. A dozen food trucks congregate there serving up everything from hot dogs to creme brulee.
"Food Truck Fridays have developed into this kind of neat downtown Phoenix cultural event," said Brad Moore, owner of Short Leash Hot Dogs.
People come from all over the Valley to taste offerings from these mobile restaurants, and if you think the food is just ordinary, think again. Behind the doors of these food trucks there are some serious chefs at work. Eric Ireland, owner of Torched Goodness, trained at Le Cordon Bleu, now he's making melt in your mouth decadence.
Other options are rosemary tater tots and a pulled pork po boy sandwich from Taste Rite truck, the sweet potato steak pie from Mamma Toledo's PIes, gourmet hot dogs from Short Leash Hot Dogs or authentic Filipino street food from the Hey Joe! truck.
The experience has been so popular these food truck owners say people will come and hang out for a few hours. Even in the heat of summer it is bearable thanks to large swamp coolers and a shaded area packed with tables.
One diner said she enjoyed coming to the event because of the variety of options available, and several people said they liked it because you don't have to find one location that everyone agrees upon. There's truly something for everyone.
Food Truck Fridays takes place every Friday at the Downtown Phoenix Public Market located at 14 E. Pierce, which is Central between Van Buren and Roosevelt. The trucks serve food from 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m.
