Mom's cherry pie recipe triggers son's pie making career

TAMPA, Fl. - Tampa’s Mike Martin knows a thing or two about pie. He’s made a few. Well, more than a few. Mike’s company bakes 10,000 to 15,000 pies every week!

It all began with Mike’s yearning for mom’s homemade cherry pie.

”I got tired of waiting for mom to make the cherry pie, so I had to make it myself,” said Martin.

Mike began experimenting with pie recipes, and sharing them with friends. After a bit of encouragement, and a few years later, Mike’s pies are now featured in restaurants and stores around the country, many of them national award-winners.  He bakes up more than thirty flavors, including the classics like blueberry, cherry (of course), a very serious peanut-butter pie, and even an authentic key-lime –- a pie choice Mike wasn’t crazy about, at first.

“I had never tasted a key lime I liked, and I said I’m not going to do that. Friends and family were like ‘how can you open a bakery in Florida and not make key lime pie?” said Mike.

Mike did his homework, and came up with a recipe even he liked. The result? His ‘Killer Key Lime’ pie is his best seller.
