Sleeping Beauty: 4 Tips to Slow Down Aging in Bed

Youth, vigor, vitality, the place the magic happens is in bed. We all know that getting enough sleep contributes to looking healthier and younger. Did you know your sleep position can affect how you form wrinkles? Donna Ruko and Dermatologist, Jody Comstock, have four ways you can do to slow down aging while you're getting shut-eye.

 

1.  Great skin begins with a pre-sleep beauty routine.

Use a cleanser with a scrub. You can use a chemical scrub that has little beads in it, or something that exfoliates the skin, like an alpha hydroxyl acid. You can also do it the cheap way by using a gentle wash cloth.

 

2.  Invest in a great overnight skin treatment.

The key is a treatment that penetrates the skin. Medical grade products like Obaji and SkinMedica are great options to keep that skin looking young while sleeping.

 

3.  When you doze, strike a pose!

If you sleep on your right side, you may see a deeper crease by the side of the nose. You may see more volume loss on that side. From constant pressure, you can lose more fat and get more folds and wrinkles. It's almost impossible to change sleep habits. If you do choose to lay on your side, try using a silk pillowcase. Slip and Susurrus Organic are both great options.

 

4.  Keep your skin hydrated.

Hydration always starts inside out. That means no skimping on water during the day. Now since we can't drink water while we're sleeping, a humidifier is a great way to keep the skin hydrated and remember best way to get rid of wrinkles is to close your eyes.

Bonus Tip

Hands and feet are usually the first parts of your body to show signs of aging. For a pampering overnight treatment, apply Vaseline or Aquafor to the soles of your feet and put on socks before you sleep. The socks help bind the moisture to your feet and you'll wake up to soft, smooth soles. Now all you need is a pair of strappy heels to show them off.
