It's time to start thinking about your next vacation. There's no substitute for hard work when it comes to hunting down a sweet deal on a hotel. Getting a good price doesn't mean you're done! Jimmy Rhoades and Jacob Tomsky, author of Heads in Beds: A Reckless Memoir of Hotels, Hustles, and So-Called Hospitality, have three tips to improve your hotel stay after you walk through the lobby doors.
1. Front Desk Interaction
Front desk agents are the agents of karma, if you treat them nicely they may upgrade your amenities during your stay.
2. Smart Complainers Win
Even though most complaints should be delivered to the front desk directly, it's important to remember that most of the issues are not caused by the front desk at all. Questions like "should I speak to a manager about this?" or "should I speak with housekeeping about this." will help.
3. The Well-Placed Gratuity
"I will do whatever it takes to deserve the tip and then a little bit more in the hope that you'll hit me again." Slip an employee a 20-dollar bill and maybe he will hook you up with a room upgrade, free movies or a late checkout.
