A lot of usual stuff comes out of Japan, but it is also the home of two stores that sell low cost, high quality goods. They are Uniqlo and Muji.
If you've never heard of them, you will soon as they're slowly expanding into the United States. Right now, Muji is only in New York and San Francisco, and Uniqlo is in New York, New Jersey, and San Francisco. But you can shop both stores online.
So, if you're looking for some inexpensive gifts that not everyone on your block will have, you may want to check them out.
Uniqlo is basically a Japanese version of H&M or an Old Navy. Their website is clean and modern and they sell a lot of staples like underwear and t-shirts. Dresses start at around $20 and you can get $20 fleece jackets.
Another great outerwear deal is their puffer jackets. They retail at $69 and are similar to the ones in Patagonia that sell for $199.
Muji also sells clothes, but they have a lot of other home items.
The shop is somewhere between a Target and an Ikea. On their website, you’ll find lots kitchen essentials, cool stationary, furniture, and storage solutions, all reasonably priced.
