Will the Reviewer Card really get you better service?

Sites like Yelp and TripAdvisor are full of regular folks writing reviews of restaurants, hotels and spas.  A negative review can hurt a business.  Businesses know this and a new product called, Reviewer Card,  is looking to capitalize on that fear.

Here’s how it supposed to work. You go to a business, show your Reviewer Card, which proves you write reviews on internet sites, and then the business will be so scared you'll write a bad review that they'll go out of their way to bribe you…um…protect you.

It costs $100 to sign up for this.  It's a black plastic card that says you're a reviewer.  And definitely says you're obnoxious.

The entire point of sites like Yelp is that they claim to feature unbiased reviews.  As someone who uses these sites, Do you really want to read a positive review written by someone who was clearly treated better than average?

Reviewer Card founder Brad Newman told the LA Times, "It's not a threat. It's a way to get the service you deserve."
