The rise in technology has changed our work lives and office interactions dramatically. The old rules no longer apply. The List’s Teresa Strasser gets an update on workplace dos and don’ts from business expert and author, Barbara Pachter.
1. Become Fluent in Body Language.
This applies to traditional, in-person meetings, and online conferencing, Skype and Facetime.
2. Get Your Social Media in Order
LinkedIn is the number one site for business networking. The number one rule is a clean, professional profile pic accompanied by a well-written profile. You need to join if you are serious about expanding networking opportunities, and even finding a job.
3. The Business Meal
Technology has added a new dimension to the business lunch: your smartphone. A great rule is to leave it in your purse or pocket. If you are hosting the guest, excuse yourself and go pay the bill before the check comes. This is a classy move and takes all the pressure of “who’s paying” off the table.
Barbara Pachter is a world-renowned author of nine business books and speaks to major companies on a regular basis. If you’d like more insight into business etiquette, check out her site, pachter.com.
