In 2016, retail copmany REI started a movement called #OptOutside to encourage people to connect with their loved ones over the Thanksgiving holiday. The store closed its doors on Turkey Day and Black Friday to let employees and customers spend more time living life than being stuck in a store. This year, they're doing it again – but they aren't the only ones. Here's a list of 14 stores that want you to opt outside by closing their doors on Thanksgiving.
Costco wants you to hang out with your family all Thanksgiving day long, but you can visit them for all your buying-in-bulk and sampling needs the next day when it opens at 9 a.m.
This clothing store favorite will be closed Thanksgiving Day but will be open on Friday for deal-seeking shoppers. Some stores might even be opened by midnight on Friday, so check your local H&M store for exact Black Friday hours.
Your favorite spot to find just about everything will be closed on Turkey Day, but will reopen on Black Friday at around 7 a.m.
The popular place to go for all things pets will be closed on Thanksgiving, but you can get your animal friends anything they need on Friday when the store reopens.
Petco will also be closed on Thanksgiving, to give you time to snuggle up with your furry or scaly friends. Anything you need, you can grab on Friday when the store will be open.
6. Sam's Club
Sam's Club will be closed on Thanksgiving, but be back open on Friday for all your shopping needs. Make sure you check your local Sam's for their particular Black Friday hours.
7. Home Depot
Sorry, DIY-ers, if you're looking to make a last minute T-Day project by running to Home Depot on Thanksgiving, the store will be closed. But, you can get all your home project needs taken care of on Friday when the store will be open around 6 a.m.
Speaking of home improvement, Lowe's will also be closed on Thanksgiving day, but you can swing by for your home and project needs on Black Friday, when the store is projected to open at 6 a.m. as well.
9. Pep Boys
If you get into any car trouble on the way to Grandmother's house on Thanksgiving, don't stop at Pep Boys because the automotive store will be closed. But, you can head in for what your car needs on Friday, when the store reopens.
10. Burlington Coat Factory
If you're looking to get a last minute gift to givve your cousin at T-day dinner from Burlington coat factory, you'll be out of luck. But the store will open back up on Black Friday at 7a.m.
11. TJ Maxx
The popular clothing store will be closed on Thanksgiving day. But you can return for all the savings on Black Friday when the store is said to open at around 7 a.m.
12. BJ's Wholesale Club
BJ's awesome prices will be put on hold for Thanksgiving day, but, you can grab them all on Friday, starting at 7 a.m. when the store reopens.
13. DSW – Designer Shoe Warehouse
You won't be able to get a jump DSW's designer shoe deals on Thanksgiving. The store will be closed for Turkey Day, but you can visit the store for all your shoe deal needs at regular opening times on Black Friday.
14. Hobby Lobby
Get all of your hobby needs before Thanksgiving because the popular craft store will be closed on Turkey Day. It will be open the next day for all of your soon-to-be-winter crafting needs.
