3 big brands giving women the spotlight this monthEntertainment The List
Women make up half of the population, but they make much more than half of the household purchasing decisions – about 80% of those decisions, in fact. And while we should be celebrating women every month of the year, during Women's History Month, three brands you know are honoring women by bringing them to the forefront of their ads, products, and logos.
Through the rest of the month, the Brawny man will be replaced by a "Brawny woman". Brawny paper towels is looking to get across the message that "strength has no gender"; and we can all be "giant". Along with temporarily changing their well-known logo, the brand's advertisements feature women in history, including women who've broken barriers in fields of science, medicine, first responders, and more.
Dove is known for its focus on uplifting its consumers and spreading messages of self-love. This month it extends that message with its "My Beauty, My Say" campaign. Dove's aim is to get people to stand up for their individual qualities and beauty, both inside and out. Ads in this campaign feature women who have overcome the pressure to be or to look the way society might expect them to, including one ad with pro boxer Heather Handy.
Thanks to the winner of the "Lego Ideas" contest, the new set of Legos will celebrate women's accomplishments. Figures will include five NASA pioneers, including mathematician Katherine Johnson, whose story was recently featured in the film Hidden Figures. The set is currently slated to be launched later this year.
