3 food companies making the world a better placeFood The List
What happens when the owner of an eatery is hungry for social change? More and more, they put their money where their mouth is. Kristina Guerrero has three amazing eateries making the world a better place one bite at a time.
1. Even Stevens Sandwiches in Arizona, Utah and Idaho
What they do is for every sandwich they sell, they donate one. Each shop creates accounts for local nonprofit food banks with Sysco Food Service distributors. At the end of each month Even Sevens allocates funds to those accounts.
2. Avalon International Breads in Detroit
They are rated one of the top 100 inner city businesses in the United States. Avalon hires from economically challenged areas located around the bakeries and purchases ingredients from local urban farms. They set three bottom lines and it was right relationship with the Earth, right relationship with the employees and right relationship with the community.
3. Staplehouse in Atlanta, Georgia
Voted the best new restaurant in 2016 by Bon Appetite, Staplehouse operates as a for-profit subsidiary of The Giving Kitchen, a nonprofit charity that provides emergency grants to metro Atlanta restaurant workers in crisis.
