3 Holiday Travel Tips That Can Save You Big MoneyDeals The List
We all want to save money around the holidays. The new Google Flights website now offers an option that specifically tells you how much you can save by making slight modifications to your holiday travel, but that’s just one trick. Lindsey Granger and travel expert Mike Siegel have three more creative ways to get the best deals this year.
1. Be Tardy to the Party
Even though your holiday meal might be a bit cold when you arrive, you can save 50 percent or more on tickets if you fly on Christmas, new year’s and new year’s eve. Dec. 31 and Jan. 6 are your cheapest bets to return home.
2. Books Tickets Separately
Getting big blocks of tickets with the airlines is a tough thing. If you're going to buy that, usually they don't give you any kind of deal. Buy one or two tickets at a time you’ll usually get $100 or more in savings per ticket during the holidays. You may not get seats together, but it’s worth it for those kind of savings.
3. Stay at a Business Hotel
Check out hotels chains like Holiday Inn Express and Residence Inn. These business hotels really take a beating over the holidays because no one is traveling for work. If you're willing to stay in more of an industrial park area you’ll find great deals of around 30 percent.
