The Guinness World Records for traveling to all of the world's 196 sovereign nations in 18 months and 10 days was just broken by 27 year old Cassie DePecol and she did it by going it alone. Now traveling by yourself, especially to foreign countries, may sound intimidating, but Cassie gave Kristina Guerrero some insider info to make the idea less scary and more fun.

1.  Have Structure

It's not necessarily a schedule or a plan, but it's important to have some sort of structure on a trip to know that you at least have a place to stay that night. Planning smart means designing in a bit of flexibility so if you love a place, you can stay longer.

2.  Use Vacation Rentals Like Airbnb

Instead of staying in a chain hotel it's more important to support the local economy by staying with locals if you can. Airbnb is a great way to find these places. It's like having a friend in every country and they are great to show you around the local hot spots.

3.  Use Your Tech

Before you go to a country be sure to always check sites like weather.com, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Travisa. It's like anything — the more you know, the less you'll have to fear.
