3 military inventions that went mainstreamTechList The List
On Memorial Day we honor our fallen soldiers and salute those serving. You might not know this, but many of the items we use daily, like GPS systems and microwaves, were created by our military's research. Lindsey Granger and veteran Ram Zarchi are showing us three more things that have gone from military to mainstream.
1. Off Road Vehicles
They were developed after having very hard times throwing Jeeps from the plane and having them crash down and not be usable in combat. The solution was Tom cars that are virtually indestructible. Now amateurs like me can ride in them recreationally.
Unmanned aerial vehicles have gained popularity for military use in recent years for their ability to familiarize soldiers with war zones. Now you can buy them at places like Best Buy and Wal-Mart for under $100. According to a New York Times report more than 2 million are expected to be sold this year.
3. Virtual Reality
Most of us have seen Samsung’s virtual reality commercials. The armed forces have actually been using this technology for years. A common is flight simulators. They're the best tool the military have to simulate the variety of scenarios that can happen. Now more VR systems than ever are available for consumers.
