3 of the Spookiest Ghost Towns Across AmericaLifestyle The List
Looking to find some real scares this Halloween? Forget the generic haunted houses – Brian Corsetti has three of the spookiest ghost towns across America.
1. Virginia City, MT
In 1885, the sheriff was robbing all of the gold deliveries that were going out of Virginia City. The citizens formed a vigilance committee and they came in and hanged all the bad guys. The town is pretty much the same as it was back then — right down to the dark, tortured spirits.
2. Egmont Key, FL
Only available by boat, this military ghost town served as a base for union soldiers and a prison camp for captured Seminoles from the 1700s to the mid-1800s. Many island workers have reported soldier ghosts at night, and the ghost of loyal light housekeeper George V Rickard who fled in 1861.
3. Bodie, CA
This is known to be one of the most preserved ghost towns in America, but locals say that it’s haunted and cursed by many troubled souls. The most popular story is the ghost of successful business man, James Stuart Cain. His Chinese servant took her own life after being fired because she was his mistress. Who knows how many of those long-dead people live on in the 110 remaining buildings?
