We love binging on Netflix binging and binging on snacks – so why not combine the two? Food bloggers "The Geeks Who Eat" decided to fuse these two pleasures together with binge-able snacks based on your favorite Netflix shows.
1. The Crown – Royal-tea Cookies
Here's a treat even Queen Elizabeth would love! These cookies are super simple to make and if you want to go the extra mile, pair them up with some delicious tea for the ultimate delicacy.
2 sticks plus 2 tbsp of salted butter, softened
1 cup sugar
2 cups of all-purpose flour
1 cup (scant) cornstarch
2 tea bags Yorkshire tea
With a mortar and pestie, grind tea until it is a fine powder.
Combine butter and sugar. Whip with mixer until creamed.
Sift in flour and cornstarch, and mix together using a pastry cutter until combined.
Form dough into a ball, wrap it in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for 20 minutes.
While dough is cooling, preheat your oven to 325F.
Roll dough onto a lightly floured surface and cut into rounds.
Place on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper.
Bake for 20 minutes or until cookies have a faint golden hue.
Allow to cool and serve with tea.
2. Orange is the New Black – Chang's Frito Fritters
As an homage to the Netflix series, here's a recipe for Chang's Frito Fritters. In the show, Chang uses a bag of Fritos, some peas and some water. Doesn't sound that appetizing? There is a way to make it work! And we promise it'll be oh-so deliciously worth it.
1 bag of Fritos
1 cup of cooked peas
½ cup of water
1 tbsp of vegetable oil
Open the Fritos bag just a little to release air and use a rolling pin to smash the chips.
Pour crumbs into a bowl and add 1/2 cup of water.
Add a cup of cooked peas, one egg and mash it all together with your hands.
Form into patties.
Microwave on high for two minutes.
Place patties on nonstick skillet and fry about two to three minutes on each side.
Enjoy warm with hot sauce.
3. The Walking Dead – Lucille Pretzel Bats
The Geeks Who Eat thought an obvious snack choice for The Walking Dead would be doing something inspired by "zombie brains," but they decided to go out of the box. They guarantee this recipe will be one real fans of the show will really geek out about.
1 bag of pretzel rods
1 tube of black gel icing
Silver sugar crystals
Red sugar crystals
Using the black icing, create the base for your barbed wire by drizzling icing around the pretzel rod.
Coat liberally with silver sugar crystals.
Follow up with the red sugar crystals.
Repeat until you reach your desired amount.
Freeze if desired .
What a better way to celebrate your special fandom for that Netflix show than creating a mouth-watering snack inspired by it. Bon Appétit!
