3 stories of achieving success (by being a little cheap)The List Trending
You might think the only way to feel successful is to make a lot of money and then spend a lot of money. But that's not the case! You can create runway worthy looks, experience space and planets, even become a better cook – all by thinking with the cash-saving part of your mind. We're giving you cheapskate approved tips on how being cheap can pay off, just like it did for 3 huge successes trending online.
1. Cheap Tip #1: Fake It Till You Make It
Don't waste money on expensive things you know you'll use once! Like the Game of Thrones Costume designers that made furry pelt capes out of Ikea rugs. This is a show that has a multiple million dollar budget. They could buy 4 fur pelts if they wanted to. But instead, they figured out how literally no one would tell the difference between a rug and a fur cape from the 1400s.
Just like no one will tell the difference between a $200 pair of pants from a boutique and a pair of pants you bought off of Ebay for the cost of two BLTs.
2. Cheap Tip #2: Let Others Work Harder So You Can Work Smarter
We all have things we're really good at. People at NASA and Astronomy.com are good at getting views of space. Astronomy.com will even show the upcoming solar eclipse in its entirety, with a live stream, shot in 4K, which is basically better looking than seeing with your own eyeballs.
You could buy solar sunglasses or take a day off of work to watch the eclipse; but sunglasses cost money and bills have to get paid. Why make things more difficult? Scientists will be shooting it anyway…you might as well reap some of those benefits – and for free.
3. Cheap Tip #3: Know Your Audience
Some people might not understand the appeal of living the cheaper life. But that's never stopped successes like pumpkin spice. Sure, some people want their pumpkin flavors to be real but you can't put real pumpkin in everything! Do you know how weird it would be to drink a protein shake and have a plop of pumpkin land on your face?
That's why we put pumpkin spice in everything – butter, protein powder, potato chips (gross). And when things get put on the shelves before their prime season – they're cheaper! Treat yourself, pick up some spice, and sprinkle it on your whole life.
