3 surprising materials being used to make clothingLifestyle The List
H&M’s conscious collection just hit stores and the fabric is made from recycled plastic. These types of earth friendly things are becoming a hot new trend. Donna Ruko has three other very surprising materials weaving their way into your wardrobe.
1. Cow Manure
Even though it may sound gross, don't pooh pooh the idea just yet. It's actually just science. Cow dung is full of nitrogen, phosphate and once these are extracted it just takes a couple of steps to create a raw material.
Reebok is the brand behind corny shoes. They have a body made from organic cotton and a sole from industrial grown corn. The kicks can go full circle! By creating shoes from materials that grow naturally, after you've used them the kicks will be compostable.
After a harvest, the leaves that are usually considered waste are gathered and the fibers are extracted then woven together. The material is strong enough that Camper has a concept sneaker of leather and Puma also has a prototype.
