3 Tips for Losing Weight with WalkingLifestyle The List
Is your New Year’s resolution to lose weight? Sometimes getting to the gym can be hard or overwhelming. So we’ve looked into a better and easier way to keep in shape: lose weight with walking! To learn more about this free and convenient workout, we caught up with Steve Kamb of Nerd Fitness who gave us three steps to follow.
1. Learn the Right Way to Walk
First, make sure you have the right shoes! "The thinner that you can get the distance between your foot and the ground”, Steve explains, “they [call that] a ‘zero drop’ shoe, meaning that your heel is not necessarily elevated." So what about those shoes that claim to shape up certain areas? “That is absolutely not true,” Steve warns. You also want to make sure you’re walking with correct form and technique, which means standing up straight and breathing in through your stomach.
2. Fit Walking Into Your Weight Loss Goals
The next step is to integrate walking into your overall calorie-burning goals. Steve says you can burn about 100 calories for each mile you walk. Nerd Fitness even created a handy dandy calorie calculator so you can find out specifically how much you’re burning by your weight. Example: if you weigh two hundred pounds and walk two miles, you’re burning up to two hundred and twelve calories!
3. Find the Motivation
Find ways to stay motivated so you can keep yourself on track. Steve recommends using “temptation bundling” to incentivize your workouts. “Bundle that thing you’re interested in doing, but you struggle to get yourself to start with, and combine it with something that you truly enjoy.” For example, you can choose a podcast, audiobook or music album that you can’t listen to unless you’re walking. That way you’ll condition yourself to walk more!
