We love sports because they get us pumped; inspire us; and are entertaining without even trying. But it's the behind the scenes stories of our favorite sports that give us some of our favorite tv shows and films. If you're finding yourself in a summer re-run rut, maybe it's time for you to watch one of these drama filled, well-acted, hilarious, and riveting sports themed features. Jared Cotter 's got the upcoming shows and flicks you'll be cheering for:

1. Ballers

If you love The Rock and shows about what it's like to rise to fame, have everything, and how it changes you, you're going to love Ballers. Not to mention that it's executive produced by Mark Wahlberg, and if anyone knows storytelling, especially about fame and what it costs, it's Marky Mark – also the producer of a little known masterpiece called Entourage. Learn something, laugh, and wish you were rich while catching the season premiere on July 23rd.

2. Goon: Last of the Enforcers

Yup, your favorite punch-throwing, bone breaking, laugh riot inducing hockey player is back in the sequel to the 2011 film Goon. Hockey has gotten a little less fighty in the past couple of years, but you can live all the action on the ice on the big screen with Seann William Scott and his R-rated comedic skill. Catch him skating (and fighting) into theaters on September 1st.

3. Borg/McEnroe

If you're a fan of how intense rivalries of any sport can get, you'll want to catch this upcoming film that tells the story of the 1980 Wimbledon match between Bjorn Borg and "Screamin'" John McEnroe. See how crazy McEnroe could really get during a match and how cool, collected Borg stood up to him in this story of two power players giving their all, when winning a game means winning the world.

And if tennis isn't your thing, maybe Shia LaBeouf is – the hermity, artsy, actor plays McEnroe, which we're sure the tennis player is thrilled about…See the film in theaters, September 15th.

4. Battle of the Sexes

History buffs, sports, fans, and even comedy fans will all find something to love with this upcoming film about the epic battle between top female tennis star Billie Jean King and top male player (and kind of top jerk) Bobby Riggs back in 1973. The film brings together emotional and comedic talents Emma Stone and Steve Carell as King and Riggs; and even features film and TV favorites Elisabeth Shue and Sarah Silverman. Relive history, and the power of females, with this film, out in theaters September 22nd.
