4 Tips to Stop Annoying RobocallsTechList The List
Your phone rings, you don't recognize the number, but you think, "I don't want to miss anything important." You roll the dice, pick up, and get the dreaded robocall. Jimmy Rhoades found some ways to fight back against these obnoxious calls.
1. Do Not Call Registry
Sign up for the Federal Trade Commission's Do Not Call Registry. It's not perfect as it still allows political and charitable calls to go through, but about a month after signing up you should see some decrease in the volume of sales calls.
2. Special Instruction Tones
At the beginning of your outgoing message add special instruction tones. Then do not pick up when you see an unfamiliar number. The theory is that robots think these tones indicate a non-working number, and will remove your from their list.
3. Call-Blocking Apps
The HiYa app lets you control the level of filtering you want. It compares incoming calls against an ever-expanding, user-generated database of known spam numbers to block unwanted calls. The app is free and available for iOS and Android.
Our final tip for fighting back against robocalls is another app, but it takes a totally different approach. In addition to a database, Nomorobo detects volume calls, because robocallers dial thousands of numbers at once. Volume calls to your phone are intercepted by the Nomorobo servers and added to the database of known spam callers. This app is also free and available on Apple or Android devices.
Don't submit to our future robot overlords without a fight! Use tech to tame those robocalls.
