5 Things You Didn’t Know About Jerry MaguireEntertainment The List
Can you believe that the movie Jerry Maguire is celebrating its 20th anniversary this month? Jimmy Rhoades is showing us the money with five things you didn’t know about this classic Cameron Crowe film starring Tom Cruise, Cuba Gooding Jr. and Renée Zellweger.
1. Originally Written for Tom Hanks
Director and writer Cameron Crowe originally intended for Tom Hanks to play the part, but he took four years to finish the script. When it was done Hanks was too old, had two Oscars and wanted to direct his own movies.
2. Show Me the Money
That classic line “Show me the money!” from the movie wasn't supposed to be the classic line. Crowe actually thought the memorable one from Cuba would be “They’ll never have the quan.”
3. Ray All Grown Up
That cute little kid, Jonathan Lipnicki is all grown up and a mixed martial arts fighter. He's now 26 and has a purple belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu!
4. Dorothy Boyd Contender
Nashville’s Connie Britton almost got the part. It looked like she had it locked up after a table read, but she overheard someone say "they just want to screen-test one other actress." That actress was Renée Zellweger and the rest is Hollywood history.
5. Cuba Gooding Sr. Banned From Set
During an appearance on Graham Norton's BBC talk show in 2012, Gooding Jr. talked about how his dad didn't hold back on the set. He introduced his dad to Tom Cruise, and immediately asked Cruise if he was gay or not.
