Summer is done, but the days of epic outdoor gatherings fueled by beer and brats keep going thanks to Oktoberfest. It’s happening all over the world, but before you grab your lederhosen and steins, Jimmy Rhoades seven fun facts about this fun beer festival.
1. Let the Party Begin
When the original Oktoberfest kicks off every year, 6.4 million people party in Munich and 6.7 million liters of beer wash down half a million roast chickens, 330,000 brats and 115,000 pork knuckles!
2. Heavy Mug
A full beer stein weighs five pounds and waitresses carry up to 10 without spilling.
3. World Record
Guinness World Records has 27 full mugs as the most carried at once. That's 135 pounds!
4. Authentic Brew
All of the beer served on the grounds in Munich must be brewed within the city limits.
5. Epic Event
The Munich party has 14 massive tents, plus tons of rides and attractions crowd the 42 acre fairgrounds.
6. Drink Up
The legal drinking age in Deutschland is 16, and 14 if accompanied by an adult – that will make teens want to hang out with their parents!
7. Around the World
Up to a million people go to the world's second largest Oktoberfest celebration in Canada. Brazil, Sri Lanka and Palestine all have massive Oktoberfest celebrations as well.
