Here’s something we’ve been telling you to hold off on for months now: computers…except not the shiny, new ones. “Computer manufacturers typically release their new models in the summer,” shares Lisa. “So back-to-school sales are a great time to get last year’s model if you’re looking for a laptop or a desktop computer.” But hold off on Apple computers! “They typically announce their new models in September, so they haven’t discounted any late models yet,” adds Lisa. “Unless you’re a hardcore gamer or a designer, you’re probably going to find a good deal for your everyday use.” So computers are definitely one of the biggest August deals to look out for.
3. Firehouse Subs
Here’s another food freebie! On 8/4, Firehouse Subs is giving away free medium sub sandwiches to all customers who donate an unopened 24-pack of water bottles. Their Facebook invite says the waters will go to first responders who will then distribute donations to people in need.
4. School Supplies
School is back in session which spells major August deals! You’d think back-to-school sales are the biggest no-brainer in the world, right? Well, there are two things to consider.
First, you spend a ton on this stuff. “Families who have kids in school spend almost $700 on school supplies,” says Lisa. This certainly isn’t chump change, so here’s a trick you might not know about: in participating states, you can stack store discounts with sales tax holidays. “If you’re thinking about saving six, seven, [or] eight percent on the things you need to buy for your child anyway, those savings can certainly add up,” reveals Lisa.
States holding sales tax holidays in August are Arkansas, Connecticut, Florida, Iowa, Missouri, New Mexico, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Texas, West Virginia, and Wisconsin. Lisa says you’ll want to check when the tax-free holiday is – and look at restrictions on what you can buy and how much you can spend. For more ways to save, here’s of places of back-to-school freebies and deals under $1.
Do you live in the Rio Grande Valley, Texas area? Then stop by your local Chick-Fil-A, because KVEO reports the chain is handing out free breakfast munchies throughout August. Customers can enjoy free Chicken Biscuits on August 8 and 22, as well as free Chick-N-Minis on August 15 and 29 from opening through 10am. Someone save us a biscuit, please!
6. August Deals on Used Wedding Decor
This might be the most unusual of August deals: used wedding decor. “This one may feel a little strange, but you have to think about wedding season,” informs Lisa. Don’t be grossed out – this stuff was used one time for probably about 15 minutes. Lisa says you can snag a bunch of items: “Maybe some centerpiece items, or other decor and supplies that you might be able to use. Check out yard sales, or websites like Craiglist, OfferUp, or LetGo for really deeply-discounted supplies that, if you went to the craft store, or a decor store, you would be paying full price.” We’ll always say I do to paying less!
