Cheap But Good Wine: 3 Best Boxed Wines Under $20Food The List
Boxed wine isn't what it used to be anymore. Gone are the days of the "pairs-well-with-government-cheese" stigma! This stuff stays fresh and is as nice on your palate as it is on your wallet. Consumer expert Lisa Lee Freeman is teaming up with Total Wine & More's Mark Massimi to bring you the ultimate list of the tastiest bargains in boxed wines.
1. Double Dog Dare Chardonnay 3 Liter Box
The Double Dog Dare Box brings you some of the best California production, fruit, and you're getting it in a format you've never experienced it before. At $11.99 per box, you can actually get as much as a free bottle with every box. There's three liters in a box, which gives you roughly 20 glasses. If you do the math, that comes out to 15 cents a glass! Their California Chardonnay still delivers a fruity, oaky, balanced flavor at a bargain too good to pass up!
2. La Delizia Pinot Noir 3 Liter Box
There aren't many Pinot Noir's available in boxes, so you know this one's special. A box of "La Delizia" boxed wine will run you for $18, while the bottle costs $5. The box will give you three liters of wine, bringing down the savings to ten percent. Pinot Noirs are one of the most difficult wines to grow and to make, so that's why it's a little bit more expensive. But it's still a fantastic value in our book!
3. Canyon Oaks Cabernet 3 Liter Box
If you're craving a California Cabernet, try one from Canyon Oaks Box, which nets out to $3.80 per bottle if you're buying the $16 boxed form. If you buy by the bottle, you'd pay $5 each – so you're pretty much getting a free bottle if you buy the box!
The best part about boxed wine is that, as you continue to use it, you're not losing its quality. The plastic bag inside is designed to shrink while the wine flows out, so there's never any air contact and you avoid oxidation.
If you think good wine and boxed wine don't grow on the same vine, think again. These delicacies won't let you down and will have you going back for more. Cheers to that!
