Costco Hacks: 6 Things You Can Buy & Do without a Costco MembershipLifestyle The List
Many shoppers love Costco – but what if you don't like buying in bulk, or aren't keen on the $60 membership? As luck would have it, there are ways you can enjoy some of the big box membership club perks, without jumping on the bulk bandwagon. Kyle James of ratherbeshopping.com is giving us six ways to get you started!
If you take your drug prescription to the door at Costco and show the greeter that you're there for a refill, they'll let you in for free. Plus, Costco generally has better deals on generics than non-club pharmacies. Once they have your prescription on file, you can go online and set it up so they'll send you your refill to your doorstep.
Immunizations are also available to you with or without insurance. And eye exams care also provided without a membership.
2. Costco Gift Cards
If you have a friend or family member who is a Costco member, they can buy you a gift card. You can reimburse them of course, and you can use that gift card to purchase whatever you want. When you're checking out, you can use that as your form of payment in place of a membership card. You can get denominations of $20-$1,000, and the card can be reloaded.
3. Shop Online
You can still shop online at Costco.com, even if you're not a member. Be aware, though, that non-members will be hit with a five percent surcharge. Just be sure to do the math. If your purchase is over $1,100, it's probably better to just buy the membership and get the discount.
4. Buy Alcohol
Many states' laws allow you to go into Costco to buy alcohol. This is a great option if you're having a big event and know you're going to be buying lots of wine or beer. You can buy it without the membership. Just tell the greeter at the door, and they'll send you to the membership desk to get a one-day pass.
You can typically get alcohol 15 – 20 percent cheaper there than at your local grocery store. And you're buying in bulk, which is great for big events.
5. Get Free Day Pass to Tour
If you want to go into Costco to check out their stuff and see if you like what they have to offer, it will cost you nothing. Just ask for a day pass at the membership desk. That way, you'll know if they have stuff that will be of value to your family before spending the money on a full membership.
6. Food Court
If your Costco has an outdoor food court, anyone can use that. Also, if you get a day pass, you can go to the food court and buy anything on there. You can get a huge hotdog meal for only a $1.50 and, of course, the enormous pizza is a great bargain and delicious. Perfect for birthday parties. It is cash only, however, so be prepared.
So, if you're on the fence about getting a membership in one of the world's biggest clubs, here are a couple tricks to consider. As a non-member, you might be able to enjoy greater perks than you thought, and you'll be able to make a better decision for your wallet.
