Crazy Food Combos: 3 Recipes That Fuse Together Your Favorite Dishes

Tons of popular chefs have been on YouTube lately combining their favorite foods for an even better dish – like Rice Krispies cheesecake, or macaroni and cheese quesadillas. We met with Hearth 61 chef Alfred Muro at Mountain Shadows who showed us how to create some crazy food combos from our favorite dishes!


1. Bratwurst Flatbread Pizza

If you can’t decide between pizza or a bratwurst hoagie, have both with the Bratwurst Flatbread Pizza!




6 ounces of pizza dough

½ cup of chopped blanched broccolini

1 teaspoon of Dijon mustard

¼ cup of chopped caramelized yellow onion

½ cup of shredded (large) smoked white cheddar

¼ cup of sliced and grilled bratwurst




Preheat the oven to the hottest setting and place a pizza stone on the middle rack.


Once the oven and stone are as hot as possible, roll the dough.


Roll the dough as thin as possible and assemble the flatbread with all the ingredients on an inverted baking sheet dusted with flour. Add the smoked white cheddar on last.


Slip the flatbread onto the pizza stone carefully and cook for about 4-5 minutes. If the dough is not golden brown, it might not be quite done. Give it a little time. (until the dough is crispy)


Transfer flatbread onto a cutting board and cut desired portions. Enjoy!


2. Dessert Taco


Next up, sweet treats should be anything but boring. Try making a dessert taco!




1 ounce of waffle cone batter

1 tablespoon of marshmallow fluff

2 scoops of vanilla ice cream

1 ½ tablespoons of chopped banana

2 teaspoons of chopped strawberries

1 teaspoon of chocolate pearls

3 each of candied cilantro




Cook waffle cone batter in a traditional fry pan or waffle maker, cook 2 to 2 ½ minutes until golden brown. Place immediately in a taco holder to give it shape.


Add marshmallow fluff with extra fluff on the side-ends of the taco to prevent the ice cream from melting.


Add desired amount of vanilla ice cream.


Top evenly with chopped banana, strawberries, and sprinkle chocolate pearls on top.


Add three candied (or sugared) cilantro pieces to each taco.


3. Strawberry Balsamic Salad Cocktail


Finally, if you can’t decide between a refreshing salad or cocktail, have both!


Cocktail Ingredients


2 ounces of Bulleit Rye

0.5 ounces of lemon juice

2 strawberries

1 teaspoon of aged balsamic vinegar

1 sprig of fresh spinach


Foam Ingredients


2 egg whites

1.5 ounces of St. Germaine liqueur

0.25 ounces of lemon juice




Cut off the tops of the strawberries and cut them into quarters. Combine in a cocktail shaker with the rye and lemon juice. Muddle the strawberries well to incorporate their flavor. In a separate cocktail shaker combine the St. Germaine, lemon juice and egg whites. Dry shake the ingredients vigorously for at least 3 minutes, the mixture must reach the proper thickness, similar to the thick and creamy foam of a cappuccino.


Add ice to the strawberry mixture cocktail shaker and shake for about 30 seconds and double strain into a chilled coupe glass. Spoon the foam over the cocktail slowly to keep separation between the liquid and the foam. Finally put about 0.25 ounces of a good aged balsamic vinegar into the drink through the foam. It can be drizzled slowly to make a design in the foam if desired. Finally, garnish the drink with a fresh sprig of spinach.
