The season of summer is the season of tropical drinks; but if you're tired of the old standards, we're about to expand your summer beverage horizons. Get your island drink on, without even booking a flight, with these 3 tiki drinks made by Mixologist Conan Zimmerman and taste-tested and approved by Jared Cotter.

1. 1942 Mai Tai

This drink's sweetness and mix of fruit juices makes it a perfect choice for a hot summer's day:

You'll Need:

Dark Rum

Pineapple juice

Orange juice

Simple syrup

Grand Marnier

Mint sprigs

Pour in your preferred amount of shots of dark rum. Then add your pineapple and orange juices.

Add your simple syrup; then pour in some ice cubes.

Float the drink with Grand Marnier, then garnish with your mint sprigs and enjoy the instant refreshment.

2. The Singapore Sling

A "sling" is an old English drink from the 1700s! But the rest of your standby summer drinks might be history when you taste this updated cocktail:

You'll Need:

Gin

Grand Marnier

Brandy

Maraschino cherries

Pineapple juice

Lime juice

Cherry bitters

Soda water

Combine your gin, Grand Marnier, brandy, and maraschino cherries in a glass.

Muddle/crush your cherries to release their flavor into the liquor. Then add pineapple juice, lime juice, and a dash of your cherry bitters.

Give your mix a shake, then strain it over ice and top it with soda water. You'll enjoy the summery, cherry taste coming through, plus get a good buzz from this beverage.

3. Planter's Punch (Jared's Favorite)

If you love cocktails bursting with fruity flavor, you'll enjoy this chill beverage while hanging out at the pool:

You'll Need:

Spiced rum

Lime juice

Pineapple juice

Orange juice

Simple syrup

Soda water

Into a glass, pour in an ounce of spiced rum, followed by pineapple juice, lime juice, and orange juice. Then add your simple syrup. Add soda water to the top, then garnish the drink with some more mint sprigs.

The sweet juices mix well with the soda water and rum, giving you a fruity, but not overwhelmingly sweet cocktail to drink in the summer breeze.
