Bunless Burgers: 3 Hamburger Recipes with Bread Bun Alternatives
FoodWe like big burger buns and we cannot lie! But, we’re going bunless with three new takes on burgers that’ll have your buns shakin’ all summer long.
1. Tropical Turkey Burger
Not all buns need burgers, and not all burgers need buns. Case in point? Our Tropical Turkey Burger. In this delightful summer recipe, we’re substituting bread buns for grilled pineapple.
Ingredients
- Frozen turkey burger
- Pineapple slices, grilled
- Sliced red onion
- Butter lettuce
- Pepper Jack Cheese
Directions
Cook turkey burger and season as desired. Grill two pineapple rounds. Build burger starting with pineapple, then lettuce, burger, cheese, red onion and the other pineapple slice.
2. BBQ Bean Burger
Up next — we’re wrapping our lasso around this BBQ Black Bean Burger. We’re building black bean patties that are going to be our “buns” and add some good old barbecue sauce for that outdoors, smokey touch that’ll leave your guests impressed.
Ingredients
- Regular hamburger patty
- Frozen black bean burger patties
- Coleslaw
- Barbecue sauce
- Jack cheese
Directions
Prepare the hamburger as desired. Crisp up two frozen black bean patties. Spread BBQ sauce on each side. Place burger on one patty and top with cheese and coleslaw. Cover with other half and enjoy!
3. Avocado Veggie Burger
Finally, say bravo-cado to this avocado veggie burger! Who doesn’t love avocado inside their burgers? To switch things up, we’re totally turning this on its head and making the avocado our bun.
Ingredients
- One large Hass avocado
- One frozen veggie burger
- Butter lettuce
- Roma tomato, sliced into rounds
- Sriracha aioli (sriracha and mayo)
Directions
Cut the avocado in half, remove the pit, drizzle with lemon juice and lay face-down on a cutting board. Gently remove the skin on each side and cut off the round part to make it flat.
So, there you have it. Next time you’re planning burger cook-out and realize you forgot the buns, no need to stress! These bunless and beautiful burgers will pack the punch at your next backyard fest.
