Design trends come and go, but the classics are classic for a reason. If you're looking to breathe some new life into your nest, interior designer, author and TV personality Nate Berkus is sharing four tricks with Kristina Guerrero that will turn any home into a modern classic and be on trend for 2018.
1. Find What You Love
Nate believes in design, in motion and knowing what's coming out next, but what's more important is to take the time to sift through all of this imagery that we see every day, whether online, or on television, or in magazines, and really take the time to edit down what our personal design style is. Often times we get taken with what the latest trend is, but the truth is that information is out there to give us choices and the best choice you can make is to marry form and function, and go with simple and classic.
2. Keep it Simple
You want something that's simple and fairly neutral truthfully so that you can add your own personal touch to it. Classic textures like tufting and stripes instead of flashy patterns keep it timeless and ready for your personal touch.
3. Big Changes in Small Details
When you're decorating, when you're adding paint, or pillows, or upholstery, or things that are easy to change, Nate thinks that's where you can get more adventurous and avant-garde.
4. Stick with What You've Got
The easiest tip to give people to refresh their space is to use what you already have. Can you spit up those nightstands and use one as a side table in the living room? Can you add new lamps next to your bed side and can you update the bedding to update the feel of the whole space? Walk around your own home and try your own furniture in a different location. The whole space can feel different by just moving what you've already got.
