Get your ice coolers ready, because April 7th is National Beer Day! This holiday was created to commemorate the Cullen-Harrison Act of 1933. Signed by President Roosevelt, the law legalized the purchase, sale, and consumption of beer and wine for the first time since the Prohibition of 1920.

While chugging down a cold one is relaxing and refreshing, there are also tons of other uses for beer we bet you’ve never heard of.  Read on for five beer hacks that will revolutionize your life!

1. An Aroma Therapy Sleep Aid

Yep, you read that right. Since alcohol is a sedative, beer can help you get a better night’s sleep. Here’s the catch though: you don’t want to go overboard. It is recommended that you stay under two drinks to avoid alcohol-related disturbances, especially for women.

Gregg Smith, author of The Beer Drinker’s Bible says he’s women often go into his brewery asking for the hops he uses to brew beer. They sew it into pillows, and the smell is supposed to be a sleeping aid. Who would’ve thought!

2. A Boozy Beauty Mask

Beer can help us catch up on our beauty sleep as well as our beauty routines. That’s right. Glamour Magazine shared a boozy DIY mask that  supposedly helps restore your skin’s pH levels with properties from the hops. All you do is mix together a tablespoon of beer, one tablespoon of plain yogurt, one tablespoon of olive oil, one egg white, and one teaspoon of almond extract. Mix together, apply, leave it on for 15 minutes, and voila!

3. Therapy to Soothe Tired Feet

A long day of work calls for a cold bottle of beer once we get home. Not just for drinking, but for our tired feet. All you have to do is fill a bowl with cold beer, soak your feet in there and let the beer do the rest. The carbonation in beer helps soothe that tired feeling.

4. Polisher for Cooking Pots

Who knew beer comes in handy with your spring cleaning chores?!  Yup, you can actually use beer to polish copper pots and pans. According to Men’s Health, all you do is let the dishes soak in beer for a little bit, and the acidity of it will do the rest.

5. Lawn Fertilizer

Gardening and working on that grass will never be the same after this hack. It turns out gardeners have been using beer to grow grass for a long time, as carbohydrates and yeast in the drink stimulate grass-growth. Of course, this hack is meant to be used for occasional brown spots in your lawn, not to replace water. That would be way too pricey!

Who would’ve thunk that beer could have so many genius, everyday uses?
