National Cat Day 2018: 3 Claw-some Ways People Are Celebrating CatsHitList
October 29 is National Cat Day, but there are some cat people whose passion has them celebrating cats every single day. Read on for three ways folks are putting their feline friends on a pet-estal!
1. iAmMoshow, The Cat Rapper
Let’s start with the musical cat dad, iAmMoshow, The Cat Rapper. “I just love cats,” iAmMoshow tells The List. “I love how you have to work to get the love.” The YouTube meow-sician makes music for all the kitties of the world, but his tunes also send a message from the heart. “It’s okay to show feelings, love your cats, and I’m here to kill the whole stigma about cats being bad,” insists iAmMoshow. And based on the popularity of his music videos, millions of people agree! Kick off National Cat Day by binge watching his videos! Keep up with iAmMoshow on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Twitter and Snapchat.
2. Earnest Hemingway Home & Museum
Next, nearly 60 six-toed cats live at the Earnest Hemingway Home and Museum in Key West, Florida. Dave Gonzalez, the museum’s Public Affairs Director, says the history of the cats is as legendary as the author. “The folklore legend that Hemingway loved was that gypsy cats were thought to have mystical and magical powers,” shares Gonzales. “He let it be known he’d like to have one of these cats as an example of that story, and that’s how he was rewarded his first cat.” Sounds like a fun and educational way to celebration National Cat Day!
3. Snowcats Cat Convention
And our final place to celebrate National Cat Day? The first annual Snowcats Cat Convention in Denver, Colorado. “It’s basically a place where cat lovers and anybody who wants to adopt a cat can come and enjoy time with other cat lovers,” says Brandon Zavala, the event’s co-founder. They’ve got cat-lebrity meet-and-greets, activities, and auctions galore. “We have over 50 vendors that are going to be selling cat-centric merchandise,” adds Zavala. “We’re gonna have […] over 100 different adoptions available throughout the event.” Aww!
The Snowcats Cat Convention also promotes good will. “What we’ve done is we’ve teamed up with all of our vendors to bring in a new non-profit for every vendor that’s going to be coming to the event,” shares Zavala. Then a general pool of donations is shared among all the non-profits, and they’re not kitten around! “It is ultimately my goal to grow this thing to be something worldwide.” Sounds like a purr-fect idea to us!
Now you’ve got three paw-some ways to celebrate National Cat Day.
