These days car dealers offer all sorts of fancy upgrades, but did you know you could get the same features but for a lot less money by adding them yourself? Jared Cotter has three cool new products that will pimp your ride.
1. HUDWAY Glass
The HUD in HUDWAY stands for "heads up display." This transparent device displays information like speed, distance and turn by turn navigation at eye level so you can stay informed and keep your eyes on the road. Just mount it to your dashboard, open the app and place your smartphone on HUDWAY. A heads up display from the dealership can cost up to $1,000, but this gadget, that's out now, only costs around $50.
This cool invention is a license plate cover that doubles as a wireless parking sensor. You just mount it like any regular license plate frame, launch their app on your smartphone and start parking like a pro. The device installs in less than five minutes with absolutely no wiring and four security screws to prevent theft. Similar upgrades from a car dealer could run you over $500, but they're letting this gadget go for around a $150. Plans are to start shipping this month.
This is a set of car mats with a honey comb design that promises to trap dirt and dust, while being easy to clean. They also have anti-bacterial properties and are odor resistant. Car mats from a dealership could cost $100 per row, but these will go for around $50. They're experiencing shipping delays, but have met their crowdfunding goal.
