Ridesharing Safety: 5 Important Tips to FollowLifestyle The List
The ridesharing economy has been disrupted by companies like Uber and Lyft and with so many nonprofessional drivers behind the wheel the issue of personal safety has become a hot topic. Kristina Guerrero has five important safety tips you should always follow.
1. Make Sure You Have the Right Car
Make sure they ask for your name first and also check the picture in the app to be sure the driver and the car's license plate match.
2. Never Ride Up Front
There are no sets laws or rules that you can’t sit up front, but it makes drivers uncomfortable because if it's a female it might be a distraction and if it's a man it could be a little dangerous.
3. Don’t Use Cash
Cash is not king in the rideshare world. When you pay through the app you're covered by the company if something happens. If you hand over cash it could cause a problem.
4. Check for Visible GPS
When you get into the car look to make sure the driver's smartphone or GPS is visible. Also follow along on your own maps app as you go.
5. Safe Options
There are other options out there such as Safr of Boston, Massachusetts which cater to the needs of women and Uber is starting a pilot program for teens.
