Summertime means soaking up rays and soaking in the pool – so how about a booze-soaked snack to spice things up summer? Read on for three recipes you can make at home!
1. Spiced Spiked Apples
Red Delicious apples
Fill the jar with sliced apples, and fill to the top with fireball.
Close the lid tightly and let sit for 6+ hours in the refrigerator.
Serve with caramel sauce.
2. Spiked Strawberries & Cream
Whole strawberries (or pre-cut in half)
Whipped cream flavored vodka
Cool Whip or desired whipped cream
Cut off the leafy tips of strawberries and poke a few holes with a fork.
Cut in half or in quarters depending on desired bite size.
Fill a jar with strawberries and vodka, let soak in fridge for 6+ hours.
Serve in a bowl with Cool Whip on the side.
3. Spiked Poached Pears
2 cups to 1 bottle dry red wine
1 navel orange, quartered
1 1/2 cups sugar
2 cinnamon sticks
4 Bartlett or Asian pears, peeled, halved, and cored
Vanilla ice cream
In a 3 to 4-qt. saucepan, combine wine, orange pieces, 1 1/2 cups sugar, cinnamon, cloves, and 2 cups water and bring to boil over high heat.
Add pears, reduce heat to a simmer, and add more wine if needed to mostly cover. Cook, covered, until pears are tender when pierced, about 20 minutes. Turn occasionally.
You can boil them up to an hour to make sure they’re good and soft. You can even let them sit in the cooled water overnight! Let cool and serve with vanilla ice cream (sprinkled with cinnamon if you fancy).
