Star Wars Day 2018: 5 Things You Didn’t Know About Han Solo – May the Fourth be with You!Entertainment The List
The new Han Solo movie, Solo: A Star Wars Story, is blasting into theaters soon – and it's generating quite some buzz. But the smuggling space pirate is more than just good looks and shenanigans. We've got five things you didn't know about Han Solo – just in time for Star Wars Day!
1. Francis Ford Coppola Connection
Let’s blast right into the first thing you didn't know about Han Solo…or should we say Solos!
Both Harrison Ford and the new Han Solo, Alden Ehrenreich, have strong connections to famed director Francis Ford Coppola for their place in the Star Wars universe. Ford's version of Solo is based mostly on Coppola, as George Lucas wanted Solo to have that swagger and cockiness. On the other hand, Ehrenreich made his filmmaking debut in Coppola's Tetro. The odds of that galactic coincidence are astronomical!
2. The Almost Solos
Sylvester Stallone, Kurt Russell, and even Joe Pesci auditioned for the role of the famed space pirate. Hard to imagine, right?
3. Han Solo Was Almost Green
At number three, Han Solo was originally supposed to be a "green-skinned fish monster". Instead, he ended up in a standoff with one – the infamous Greedo. And in case you're wondering, Han shot first!
4. Ford Altered the Script
At number four, Harrison Ford altered the script for one of Han's most famous lines – without input from his co-star Carrie Fisher. That little change caused so much tension between the two on set, they weren't on speaking terms when the scene was shot. But, luckily, they made up in the next movie.
5. Ford Wanted to Be Killed by Ewoks
Finally, our swashbuckling space hero wanted to be killed off by giant teddy bears in Return of the Jedi. Harrison Ford reportedly asked Lucas to have him killed off by the adorable but violent Ewoks. Instead, he had to wait some 32 years to meet his fate at the hands of Kylo Ren in The Force Awakens.
And on that cheerful note – that's five things you didn't know about Han Solo. Happy Star Wars Day!
