Summer Vacation: 3 money saving tourist tipsDeals The List
Ah, the time-honored tradition of summer vacations with family – the memories, the money! Jimmy Rhoades has three ways to keep your family get-away in reach, starting at home in the weeks before you depart.
1. Plan by Discount
Most vacations have a main event, and some filler – stuff you're doing on the days you're not, say, at the amusement park. So choose your fillers by available discounts.
2. The Library
Many libraries offer free or deeply discounted tickets to local attractions, such as a buy-one, get-one deal at the Detroit Institute of Arts, or free passes to the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. Call ahead of time to see if the destination library will honor your home library card.
3. Grocery Store
Because just about every hotel room these days has a mini-fridge and a microwave you can load up at the grocery store and commit to eating one meal a day in your room.
