Top 3 must-visit roadside attractions across AmericaLifestyle The List
Going on a summer road trip is a great way to spend time with the family, but why not mix it up this year? There are some fun and unique roadside attractions out there just waiting to create great new memories. Jared Cotter has the top three spots across America you should visit.
1. World's Largest Ball of Paint in Alexandria, Indiana
In 1977 Mike Carmichael painted a baseball with his 3 year old son and then they just kept painting it. Forty years later there are over 25 thousand layers and tourists from all over the world come to add their layer for free. It's even featured in the documentary Roadside Ambitions.
2. Blue Whale of Catoosa in Catoosa, Oklahoma
This cool spot is for the little children to catch their first fish. Built by hand, this Route 66 icon has attracted tourists since its creation in the early ‘70s. It started to fall apart in the late ‘80s, but it was restored by volunteers.
3. Gates of Hell in Hell, Michigan
Walk through the gates of hell in Michigan, literally! Yes, this tiny town is like a year-round Halloween land where you can play miniature golf in a cemetery in Hell, get married in Hell, even become the mayor of Hell for a day. Since it's Michigan you can be there when hell freezes over. Don't forget to visit the gift shop where you can send postcards from – that's right, Hell.
