It’s that time of the year – wedding season! And while couples embrace their new partnerships, they’re embracing the latest trends to have the “it” nuptials of the summer while also saving some serious cash. We spoke to David Twigger, Creative Director of Vermillion Events and Design Group, to give us three low-cost wedding trends to try on your special day.

1. Donuts

The donut trend started with donut walls, but now there’s actually donut cakes and donut bars, too! You can be as creative as you’d like with different flavors and glazes, and just make it as fun and bright as you’d like. It’s a great option when the average wedding cake is about $500, plus cutting fees. With donuts, you can get 100 for less than $100.

2. Balloons

There was a time where if you had balloons at your wedding, that was considered a faux pas. “It was such a no-no for a long time,” Twigger explains, “but now, they have become so creative with the different styles and sizes of the balloons that people are really going crazy for it.” This is definitely an affordable option, and they can be used on aisle ways, center pieces or even altar pieces.

3. Succulents

Our final trend is an affordable alternative to flowers: succulents. The trend has bloomed — no pun intended — because they’re now so diversified. You have so many different layers and colors that you’re really able to have fun with these. Succulents are being used in centerpieces, frames and even bridal bouquets. To save even more money, look to using faux succulents and use David’s trick to make them look real – Green Glo. Right before your event, you do a quick spray and it’ll make them look a little bit wet and they’ll look a lot more real.

If you’re a soon-to-be-married couple, these are awesome tips to consider as ways to tie the knot without breaking the bank.
