Americans are forecast to spend over $900 on gifts this holiday season. That's more than $600 billion of retail spending in the U.S. in November and December alone. This category actually gets you the most bang for your buck, especially if you use thee rewards for travel-related expenses. Some cards even give you additional bonuses if you book through the credit card's website.
2. Cash Back
When in doubt, go for a cash back card. If you don't know when you'll be traveling, if you don't know what merchandise you'll need, cash back never expires, there's no blackout dates.
If you're exchanging points for merchandise, usually you're not getting as much as you could be getting. Stick with travel or cash rewards. But if you must do merchandise, and example would be the Wells Fargo Go Far Rewards card. It awards points for purchases that you can use toward all kinds of stuff, and you get bonuses when you use the points on their shopping portal.
