Have you ever thought about giving your dog some New Year's Resolutions to follow? February 16th rings in the Year of the Dog, so now is the perfect time to have your pooch pounce onto the resolutions bandwagon. From teeth cleaning to cutting back on Milk Bones, Chinese New Year resolutions for Rover are here to stay.

1. Doggy Dental Cleaning & Check-up

Dr. Matthew Goetz of the Arizona Animal Welfare League says periodic teeth cleaning for dogs depends on their breed. Usually, smaller dogs only need dental cleanings about once a year, whereas  larger breeds might need them once every other year. Dental checkups are something you want to talk to your family veterinarian about. Most vets will include the dental exam with your dog's annual visit!

2. Doggy Shoes

Dog booties can be super helpful in maintaining your dog's health and wellbeing. For example, if you live in a cold climate with salt-covered sidewalks; if you're out hiking on spiky rocks; or if you live in a sunny climate with scorching hot sidewalks – protecting your pup's paws are a must! Making your canine wear boots can be a process that takes patience, positive reinforcement, and practice to keep them on. Booties allow you to spend more time with your dog outside after a little bit of training, and keep you more active with them. You can find these online for around $20.

3. Doggy Diet

The most important thing is that if they are looking a little rotund or overweight, you may want to put your dogs on a diet plan. Like human diets, getting the right one means consulting a pro. Whether your furbaby needs a hypo-allergenic diet, or a high-protein diet, you should certainly discuss nutrition with your vet.

The Chinese Lunar Year is upon us, and February 16th marks the year of the dog. So, we figured why not have our furry best friends join us and keep each other on check when it comes to New Year's Resolutions.
